Curator Collection

One of only four known specimens of Baptemys wyomingensis in existence — and the largest and most complete of them all. Discovered in 2023 at the American Fossil Quarry near Kemmerer, Wyoming, this Eocene turtle from the world-famous Green River Formation represents a landmark find. Professionally prepared by Seth Sorensen of Fossil Shack LLC, the specimen reveals extraordinary shell detail preserved over 50 million years in the oxygen-depleted depths of ancient Fossil Lake. Presented on a custom double-sided display, allowing the specimen to be appreciated from both sides — an exceptionally rare presentation for an exceptionally rare animal.
